Dick Welcomes Developments on Baltinglass Flood Study
Monday, 06 September 2010 00:00

There have been what are described as ‘welcome developments’ on an application lodged by Wicklow County Council under the Flood Mitigation Measures Scheme with the Office of Public Works seeking approval for thevfunding of a survey of the Baltinglass area under the terms of the Scheme.

The Office of Public Works has been in touch with Wicklow County Council advising that in its view the Baltinglass Survey would be best dealt with as part of the Slaney Catchment Risk Assessment Management Study.  The Slaney Catchment Study will assess the level of flooding risk throughout the Slaney catchment area and where the risk of flooding is significant it will produce a plan to prioritise measures to manage flooding in a comprehensive way.  The study is part of an ongoing national programme of flood risk studies being undertaken by the Office of Public Works in line with the European Union Floods Directive and National Flood Risk Management Policy.

Fine Gael Guilty of Fiddling the Numbers
Friday, 03 September 2010 16:46

Figures released by the HSE demonstrate that claims made by Fine Gael in County Wicklow regarding the back to school clothing and footwear scheme are without foundation.

In a press statement issued locally, Fine Gael claimed that “one in five of Wicklow families eligible for the allowance had not received payments”.

Data supplied by the HSE make it clear that there was no foundation in the Fine Gael claims.  The party was in effect fiddling the figures.

The HSE has also claimed that the Fine Gael spokesperson who made the claims about families in Wicklow not receiving payments had not in fact made contact with them to check the figures.

Questions Logic of N.R.A Proposals
Friday, 06 August 2010 00:00

Dick has written to the N.R.A and Wicklow County Council questioning the proposal to remove the roundabout at the Killarney Road/Southern Cross junction and replace it with a set of traffic lights.

"Constituents who have been in contact with me suggest that the traffic problems at this important entry and exit point for Bray will only be compounded with a signalised junction.  They question whether the impact of these proposals has been fully assessed" said Minister Roche.

The N.R.A proposes spending €2 million of taxpayers money removing the roundabout – which was recently ‘landscaped’ at considerable cost to Bray Town Council.
